Biography

Donald (Don) Walther is the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Comtech Telecommunications (NASDAQ: CMTL), where he provides legal counsel to the Board of Directors and Executive Management on corporate governance, risk mitigation, and the execution of business strategy in highly regulated economies around the globe.

For over 30 years—the last 20 of which have straddled the commercial and defense sectors—Don has excelled at overcoming complex legal challenges to deliver superior business outcomes for his teams, both in the Board room as a NACD Directorship Certified contributing board member and on the management teams he has served as Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Legal Officer.

Having caught the eye of The Boeing Company early in his career for his work on the antitrust clearance of the McDonnell Douglas merger (representing the merger of the world’s two largest domestic manufacturers of commercial aircraft), Don migrated from AmLaw 50 law firm Perkins Coie LLP to join Boeing (NYSE: BA) on the promise of handling some of the largest transactions he would see during the course of his career (e.g., the sale of Rocketdyne to Pratt & Whitney). That experience brought Don the opportunity to join ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT), as its first General Counsel within the Communication Systems division of ITT Defense, where he also earned his Six Sigma Green Belt from the University of Michigan in the course of a six-year career during which he was ultimately promoted to Deputy General Counsel of the corporation.

Don graduated magna cume laude from Duke University (B.A.), and with Honors from the University of Chicago (J.D./M.B.A.), where he was an Editor of the University of Chicago Law Review. His publications have been cited favorably by the United States Supreme Court and are required reading in law schools around the country. An avid supporter of the Community College system, Don teaches courses in Business at Montgomery County Community College in Rockville, Maryland, where he is an Adjunct Professor. Don, his wife Alex, and their daughter Valentina reside in Potomac, Maryland.
