Current Offerings
We know that literacy skills have broad implications beyond reading itself.
See how we address this challenge.
Our Solution Ethos
The Literacy Lab supports early childhood students through daily, targeted literacy instruction grounded in a research-based framework with the ability to be implemented in a variety of settings, including during the school day, outside of the classroom, and at literacy events.
Additionally, we believe in the foundational educational power of community-based educators. The Literacy Lab tailors support to emerging educators based on community needs and individual goals.
Clubs by The Literacy Lab
Clubs are The Literacy Lab’s interactive learning program designed to flexibly fit into a variety of formats. Clubs provide curiosity-driven experiences that put literacy skills to work.
Clubs follow a consistent structure with flexible content designed to connect to student interests, community context, and local priorities while remaining growth-focused and supporting literacy in action.
Additionally, Clubs break the remediation loop and create spaces for students to apply those skills in authentic, engaging ways. Clubs build confidence, curiosity, and ownership of learning as natural outcomes.
Clubs currently scale from Pre-K through Grade 5, provided to communities and partners along with the evidence-backed structure and an initial library of ready-to-use materials. Partners are encouraged to adapt what they receive. Clubs may expand to connect to local authors, community stories, student interests, and priorities.
Currently frameworks are:
Explorers (Pre-K – Grade 1)
Curiosity is the curriculum.
Studios (Grades 2 – 5)
Literacy as craft. Learning made visible.
Each framework is provided to communities and partners along with the evidence-backed structure and an initial library of ready-to-use materials. Partners are encouraged to adapt what they receive. Clubs may expand to connect to local authors, community stories, student interests, and priorities.
The Literacy Lab Fellowship
The Literacy Lab provides evidence-based literacy instruction in pre-K classrooms during critical early years of development. Through our Fellowship, trained early-career educators deliver targeted interventions that accelerate literacy growth while building a strong pipeline of skilled educators.
Our Fellowship is a dual impact model:
Comprehensive Early Literacy Instruction
- Our Fellows implement a research-backed literacy framework in preschools and early childhood centers.
- Each Fellow serves a classroom of students one-on-one, in small groups, and as a whole class every day.
Delivered by Empowered Future Educators
Through hands-on classroom experience and rigorous training and coaching, Fellows receive extensive professional development to prepare them for a future in education and beyond.
We are developing future educators in the communities we serve.
Our model is designed for layered impact: supporting students, strengthening schools, and building a strong educator pipeline in the communities where we serve.
Paraprofessional and Teacher Training
The Literacy Lab equips educators and community members with evidence-based literacy practices and tools that empower them to become successful literacy advocates.
The Literacy Lab tailors support to emerging educators based on community needs and individual goals. Program participants receive comprehensive training, ongoing coaching and support, and access to a community of fellow community-based educators. Through The Literacy Lab’s programming, educators grow competency in the areas of early literacy development, evidence-based literacy instruction, childhood development, and data-informed decision-making.
The Literacy Lab works with site partners to develop a plan that meets the needs of their educators and educational community. This support can include:
- Supporting the retention of existing educators
- Building the professional skills of emerging educators
- Providing evidence-informed literacy and numeracy practices for implementation with students
- Ongoing coaching from Literacy Lab experts
