The school year is nearing an end for Literacy Lab tutors in the Richmond, VA area. As we wrap up our second year of service in the region and prepare for our third, we took some time to reflect on the strong impact that Literacy Lab tutors have made for budding readers in RVA.
Two Years of Impact in Richmond
Last week, Literacy Lab staff in Richmond celebrated our second year of building strong readers in the RVA area. Our corps of 47 K-3 tutors spent the school year providing one-on-one, literacy interventions to students who were eager and ready to learn! As our corps continues to grow in Richmond, so does our impact. These tutors became integral parts of their communities at 25 different schools. We’re excited to see the gains that our tutors have made with their students as we close out this program year and start preparing for the next.
Celebrating the 2017-18 Tutors
Richmond’s Impact Awards were held at Front Porch Cafe, operated by Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT). CHAT is opening opportunities for youth and young adults to work and develop job-readiness skills. Our friends from the Robins Foundation, as well as Master Coaches and Internal Coaches, joined us to celebrate the time, energy, and dedication of this year’s corps. We recognized tutors whose work has closely aligned with our core values, as well as the effort and energy that every member of the corps put into their service this year.
Continuing to Build Strong Readers
Next year, we’ll continue growing our impact in Richmond and giving our best to students who are excited to learn. Almost half of this year’s corps are returning for another year of service. With the support of Richmond’s incredible staff and coaches, this group will continue to grow their own abilities as literacy tutors. But our returning tutors can’t do it alone! If you’re interested in joining the Richmond team, you can find more information on our website.
