This Alphabet Makes House Calls

How our tutors and fellows brought the song of classroom fun to each student’s home during a global pandemic

When COVID-19 hit, we innovated.

Both students and educators quickly had to make a transition to virtual learning. Our Literacy Lab tutors, who work hands-on with students in their classrooms daily, are no exception.

We knew we had to keep our students engaged.

To make virtual learning exciting, and bring friendly familiar faces into students’ daily lives, our Leading Men Fellows and AmeriCorps Tutors reproduced the Alphabet song, putting a new twist on a classic favorite. This is the song tutors sing every day during their tutoring sessions with their students.

Check out their video to see how our group of tutors brings joy to learning, even when that process must take place virtually.

We’re bringing our expertise – no matter the avenue.

We’re all bracing ourselves for the upcoming school year to look quite different because of the pandemic’s uncertainty. The Literacy Lab is preparing our Fellows and tutors to educate in manners that have been approved by each district to keep students safe. As always, we will be ready to serve children and support educators – whether in person, virtually or both.

Our mission is getting all children the reading skills they need for lifelong success. And you bet it’ll include singing the Alphabet Song every day, no matter what.

If this interests you, we’d love to get to know you.
