What were you doing before you joined the Literacy Lab team?
Before joining the Literacy Lab team, I lived and worked in Ohio as a Social Worker and Therapist. In this role, I helped educate, empower, and advocate for the positive well being of my clients including youth and young adults.
What influenced you to apply for your position at The Literacy Lab?
During my work with young adults, I saw the effects that illiteracy has on a life if no one takes the time to help support and teach the value of education. Many times I witnessed the struggles that come when an individual cannot read or properly comprehend text. From then on, I knew that I wanted to effect change, and The Literacy Lab was the foundation of the work I hope to continue for a lifetime.
What is one of your personal core values?
One of my fundamental beliefs is service to others. As I’ve grown and progressed through life, I’ve seen the major impact that I can help make on someone else’s life for the better. It is my belief that service to others is a paramount part of the human experience, and I’ve always valued being able to assist another person.
What are you most looking forward to in your new position at The Literacy Lab?
I am most excited to meet and start supporting all of the tutors! The impact that being a tutor had on me was invaluable, and I can’t wait to help contribute positively to the service year of new and returning members!
What’s your children’s favorite book?
“Franklin the Turtle” was my favorite children’s book!
